Hermeto Pascoal's long time collaborator, Jovino Santos Neto is a master pianist, composer, arranger, flutist and player of a multitude of other instruments including the melodica and the accordion. One of the top Brazilian musicians working today, he brings his live show to GUANABARA, accompanied by acclaimed musician Chico Chagas. This will be an evening not to be missed!

Baile funk is the musical explosion from the shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro. For millions of Brazilians, Mr Catra is today’s biggest Baile funk star, the one who imposed it as a mainstream style. With the throaty sound of the Booty beats and bass, Mr Catra sings socially engaged lyrics. He alternately mixes funk, samba, rap, electro and everything goes, thanks to DJ Sandrinhos’s MPC’s magic touch. The public goes wild and explodes in a great dance. Napalma is back for a 4-gig residence at Guanabara on Thursdays with their acclaimed VOX MUNDO party, as part of our Summer Season. The band is a fresh musical mutation born out of interaction between Brazil and Africa, with two fiery percussionists from Brazil and a powerful vocalist from Mozambique. Djembé patterns from Senegal and Mali are laid over powerful electronic dance grooves, causing an absolute mayhem of joy and good vibes in da house. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience their vibrant live performances! Funkin' Good Thursdays

We have really turn up the gas and made Thursdays at Guanabara a lot... well...Funkier!!

Our new regular band Family Funk will create an electrifying impact onstange with their 4 part-harmony vocals and 3-piece horn section and fill the dance floor with a crowd hypnotised by their crispy renditions of old school funk classics.

We have also booked a select group of Brazilian bands with a heavy funk influence like Saravah Soul, Mandinga and Eri Okan who will add their unique Brazilian spice to the whole thumping pumping affair.
